What a lovely bunch of people. The organisers definitely knew how to keep us happy, free flowing ale, nice food, nice venue and everything running on time. Why can't it always be like that? It was bit of a special occassion for us because we had just got our new album form the manufacturers so we played (nearly) all the tracks from that and not a single old one. We enjoyed ourselves very much and, as far as we could make out through the smoke and against the lights, we were not the only ones. Good kebabs afterwards as well.

July 31st Oxford [Private function] What's going on? Are we at the cutting edge of rock'n'roll or are we a cheesy wedding band? Gig list appearances can be deceiving, we are in fact the former. Some people just have very cool weddings

warblefly at Off the Tracks 2004

2003

May 25th Off The Tracks 6th Spring Festival, Castle Donnington, Leicestershire

Great little festival, great gig. Lots of people bouncing up and down with their tops off (judging from the hairy shoulders they were all blokes, then again you never know with these folkies). Perhaps it's the Donnington connection but there was a funny heavy metal - folk cross-over crowd. Metalica T-shirts and tankards, that sort of thing. Not surpising then that our folked up cover of Motorhead's We are the Road Crew went down rather well. As did everything else for that matter. Can we come again please?

June 7th Silwood Festival, Ascot, Berkshire

Got them all on their feet again. Several people sporting overexcited dancing related injuries afterwards. Good. WatRC exposed a few more closet Motorhead fans. Turning into a bit of a hit. We all had a very pleasant evening and matching hangovers. Petey didn't get out of bed until Tuesday. Oh yeah and it was lovely to have the big man Adrian Leach once again among our ranks. Nothing's changed, he still shouts at the sound people that he can't hear himself when he's forgotten to switch himself on.

June 15th South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell, Berkshire (12.30-2.30pm)

How to promote the arts South Hill park style: Place a band with their backs against a south facing wall, with no shade, on the hottest day of the year and add a large barbeque just upwind from the band so that what wind there is only serves to blow hot greasy smoke in their direction. Anyway we were brilliant for at least the first half, before our brains were cooked, and the crowd seemed to enjoy it all as well. Someone asked if we could dedicate a song to some friends who had just decided to get married. Sure, says Griff, this next song is dedicated to ... who have just got engaged, it's called [sideways glance at the setlist] Gutter Love. We apologise. Yet another admirer of Lemmy's Art came out.

June 21st Caversham Charity Folk Festival, Reading, Berkshire (11.15pm in the Main Marquee)

We really let rip for all of the measily half hour they let us play for. Oh maybe it was 35 minutes, does it matter? The Billy Brag wannabe before us sang good old socialist songs about how equal we all are but clearly he thinks pigs are more equal then flies because he happily did an encore when he was already running 10 minutes late thus eating even further into our set. I suppose it wasn't all his fault. The organisers obviously didn't have the faintest idea how to put on an event like this and I told them as much in a few words, most of them starting with F or C. I'm sorry but we're fed up with being messed about by people who have no idea quite how famous and fantastic we are. Anyway, the crowd loved it for as long as it lasted and the tramps really enjoyed it as well which was good of them because we were effectively playing in their bedroom. Next week's set is dedicated to these fine men.

June 28th (afternoon) Glastonbury Festival. You may have heard of it before (1pm Avalon Main Stage)

What can we say... we played at Glastonbury man! It was a boiling hot early afternoon show so hats of for those brave punters who still managed to bounce their dehydrated hungover bodies around. How we laughed when we discovered the van was dead just as we were about to make our way to the stage. Wouldn't it have been hilarious if we had missed the biggest gig in our life just because we had left the interior light on for 2 days? Thanks to 2 nice men with 2 nice landrovers we'll never know. Anyway, we love big stages and we love Glastonbury so next year we'll set our sights for the pyramid stage. See you there.

June 28th (evening) Witney, Oxfordshire [Private function]

Yeah honest, we managed to squeeze this in between Glastonbury gigs. We're folking saints we are.

June 29th Glastonbury Festival. We're back (6pm Small World Stage)

The Small world Stage is a really nice and relaxed place to chill out from all the excitement that is Glastonbury. Well, it was until we showed up. We were a bit worried that our rollercoaster set might not be what people came here for but we need not have worried. They loved it and so did we.

July 20th Stainsby Festival, Derbyshire.

This was a last minute invitation after they'd seen us at Glastonbury so we had a bit of a graveyard slot on the small stage. Never mind, they've promised us a main stage slot next year (that's if Rock Hodgers wedding doesn't get in the way, otherwise it'll have to be 2005). We stayed the whole weekend and had a good time though. Real ale and real music. Lurvely. Actually, I would like to take this opportunity to come to the defence of the Stout on sale at the real ale tent here. Everyone blamed this lovely brew for their frequent and violent experiences on the toilet but how come my bottom remained pristine then, hey? It's nothing to do with the stout, you've all just got to learn to wash your hands before you eat your dinner.

October 17th Imperial College freshers do. Silwood Park, Ascot Berkshire.

Not sure quite what happened. I remember the first 9 pints quite well though and they were nice. They keep asking us back so the rest of the band must have been on form. Well done boys and girls!

November 15th The Spice of Life, 6 Moor St, Cambridge Circus, Soho, London. 10pm. Entrance £5 with this e-flyer

Nice one. This was our first appearance in the Big Smoke for a loooong time and left us wondering why on earth we don't do this more often. It's so endearing to see those townies lose control over their limbs to a bit of rural rock'n'roll. We don't mean to be patronising though and we are very pleased to welcome all of you who have signed up to our mailing list after this gig, even if you do dance a bit funny. I'm sure we'll be back.
